For patients with a LMNA-cardiomyopathy there are different reproductive options. One of those options is preimplantation genetic testing (PGT). PGT is a reproductive technology that selects embryos without the genetic variant to be placed back during an IVF procedure. This method reduces the risk of cardiomyopathy development in their children. PGT for cardiogenetic disorders is still relatively new and evolving. During this information evening we would like to give you some insights in the field of cardiogenetics, the process of PGT, and current studies regarding this topic.
Our speakers include:
- A clinical geneticist specialized in cardiology who will explain the clinical aspects of cardiomyopathies and the specific role of LMNA mutations in these heart muscle diseases.
- A clinical geneticist specialized in PGT, who will discuss the process of using PGT to prevent the transmission of hereditary diseases.
- A cardiogenetics clinical researcher actively involved in studies on PGT and heart diseases, who will share future directions and current studies.
We look forward to welcoming members of the LMNA cardiac patient association and anyone interested in learning more about PGT!
