Introducing HeartFuel: A Medical Nutrition Approach for Inherited Cardiomyopathies

A new initiative led by heart transplant recipient and researcher Rogier Veltrop explores how targeted nutrition may help support heart energy metabolism in people living with inherited cardiomyopathies.

Researchers around the world are studying how the heart produces and uses energy, and growing evidence suggests that energy balance can be disrupted in genetic forms of heart muscle disease, including those linked to LMNA mutations. These findings have led to increased interest in the role that nutrition could play in supporting heart health and potentially delaying disease progression.

As part of this effort, Rogier Veltrop and his team have developed HeartFuel, described as a medical nutrition product (not a drug) designed to support the heart’s energy needs. HeartFuel is based on ingredients approved by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and aims to provide an additional nutritional option for those affected by genetic cardiomyopathies.

This initiative reflects a broader movement toward patient-driven innovation and exploration of metabolic aspects of inherited heart disease.
