We are proud to share that LMNAcardiac.org has initiated a new multi-year research project at Maastricht University (Dept. of Biochemistry, CARIM), led by Dr. Rogier Veltrop and Prof. Leon Schurgers.
The project, titled “LMNA-331,” focuses on mechanobiochemistry and cell signalling of LMNA-related cardiomyopathies. This four-year PhD program will utilize advanced models, including LMNA-iPSC derived cardiac cells, fibroblasts and 3D engineered heart tissues, to better understand the molecular mechanisms involved in LMNA-related cardiomyopathy and pave the way toward new insights, discoveries and potential treatments.
🔬 Why this matters for the LMNA community:
- The research is specifically focused on LMNA patients and their medical challenges.
- LMNAcardiac.org is formally involved as a partner in the collaboration.
- The project emphasizes transparency, collaboration, open access papers, patient involvement and knowledge-sharing within the community.
🧬 Are you a carrier or patient of the LMNA-331 mutation?
We would love to connect with you. We are building a dedicated group of patients and gene carriers with this mutation. Your involvement could be crucial for future research and treatment development.
📌 You can contribute in two ways:
• 📄 Share your LMNA variant via: Submit your variant
• 🩸 Support biological research by: Donating blood for research
Together, we make a big difference. Every contribution, no matter how small, helps move the research forward.
