After four unforgettable days of determination, teamwork, and perseverance, the Action for LMNA team has successfully completed the 2026 Nijmegen Four Days Marches. Together, the team walked to raise awareness of LMNA-related cardiomyopathy and to generate vital funding for research into this rare inherited heart disease.
Throughout the week, walkers, volunteers, healthcare professionals, family members, and friends came together with one common goal: creating a future with better treatments—and ultimately a cure—for people living with LMNA-related heart disease.
The Four Days Marches challenged every participant, both physically and mentally. Yet the incredible team spirit, outstanding medical support, and encouragement from supporters along the route ensured that every step had a purpose.
Every Step Made a Difference
Beyond the kilometres walked, the campaign helped bring LMNA-related heart disease to the attention of thousands of people. Conversations along the route, media coverage, social media updates, and the generosity of donors all contributed to raising awareness of a condition that often remains undiagnosed until serious cardiac complications occur.
Equally important, the campaign raised valuable funds that will support ongoing research into LMNA gene mutations. This research aims to improve our understanding of the disease, enable earlier diagnosis, develop better treatments, and ultimately improve the lives of patients and their families.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to every walker who took on the challenge, every volunteer who kept the team going, the cardiologists, intensivists, general practitioners, resident physicians, and medical staff who provided invaluable support, and the many family members, friends, donors, and supporters who stood alongside us throughout the week.
A special thank you also goes to researcher and LMNA patient Rogier Veltrop and cardiologist-scientist Magdalena Harakalova, whose presence at the support station highlighted the close connection between patients, researchers, clinicians, and the community working together to advance LMNA research.
But This Is Not the Finish Line
While the Four Days Marches have come to an end, our mission certainly has not.
The next fundraising challenge is already on the horizon: The Ticking Clock Challenge at Circuit Zandvoort.
This unique event offers something for everyone. Participants can choose to walk or run a single lap, complete multiple laps, or even challenge themselves with a half or full marathon. Whether you participate individually or as part of a team, every lap helps support research into LMNA-related heart disease.
Creating a team is easy. Invite your colleagues, sports club, family, friends, or local community and take on the challenge together while making a real difference for patients and their families.
