LMNA Cardiac Receives Wiek van Gilst Collaboration Prize at DCVA-NLHI Translational Research Meeting

LMNA Cardiac is proud to announce that it has been awarded the Wiek van Gilst Collaboration Prize during the 10th DCVA-NLHI Translational Cardiovascular Research Meeting in Utrecht. The award was presented to Stefan Bassant and Pieter Glijins in recognition of their efforts to advance collaboration between patients, researchers, clinicians, and organizations working to improve outcomes for individuals affected by LMNA-related heart disease.

The award highlights the importance of partnership in translating scientific discoveries into meaningful improvements in patient care. Throughout the meeting, a central theme emerged: research only reaches its full potential when it successfully reaches the people it is intended to help.

For LMNA Cardiac, this recognition reflects the collective work of an international community dedicated to accelerating research, increasing awareness, and supporting patients and families affected by LMNA cardiomyopathy.

“This recognition motivates us to continue advancing our mission and bringing scientific discoveries closer to patients.”

The award was received on behalf of the entire LMNA Cardiac community, including patients, families, volunteers, researchers, clinicians, advocacy organizations, and collaborators around the world who contribute to the network’s ongoing efforts.

A special acknowledgement goes to Rogier Veltrop, PhD, who co-founded LMNA Cardiac and has played a vital role in building the organization and strengthening its global impact. The achievements recognized by this award are the result of years of teamwork, dedication, and collaboration across many individuals and institutions.

LMNA Cardiac would also like to thank the Dutch CardioVascular Alliance (DCVA), the Netherlands Heart Institute (NLHI), and the broader cardiovascular research community for their commitment to fostering collaboration and ensuring that patient voices remain central to translational research.

As new therapies for inherited cardiac diseases move closer to clinical reality, partnerships between patients, researchers, healthcare professionals, regulators, and industry will remain essential. LMNA Cardiac looks forward to continuing to work alongside all stakeholders to accelerate progress and improve the lives of people living with LMNA-related heart disease.
