The first official day of the Nijmegen Four Days Marches is complete, marking the start of four days of determination, teamwork, and commitment to raising awareness of LMNA-related heart failure and funding research that could change lives.
After taking part in the traditional Flag Parade to officially open the event, the real challenge has now begun. Hundreds of kilometres lie ahead, and while the first blisters have already appeared, so has the incredible spirit that defines this campaign.
The Action for LMNA walking team is supported every step of the way by an exceptional group of cardiologists, intensivists, general practitioners, resident physicians, volunteers, family members, friends, and dedicated supporters. Their encouragement, medical expertise, and practical assistance ensure the walkers can continue their journey safely and with confidence. Researchers Rogier Veltrop, who is both an LMNA patient and scientist, and Magdalena Harakalova are also joining the support team at the care station during the week.
Walking for Research, Walking for Families
LMNA-related heart failure is a severe inherited heart disease that often remains undiagnosed until serious complications occur. It affects an estimated 4,000 people in the Netherlands alone and currently has no curative treatment.
That is why every kilometre walked this week matters.
Funds raised through the Four Days Marches Sponsor Walk will directly support groundbreaking research into LMNA cardiomyopathy, helping scientists move closer to earlier diagnosis, better treatments, and ultimately a cure.
The team walks for today’s patients, tomorrow’s children, and future generations who deserve a healthier future.
As Day 1 comes to a close, the finish line has been crossed together—but tomorrow the journey continues with Day 2. The determination of every walker, volunteer, healthcare professional, and supporter reminds us that meaningful progress is never achieved alone. Together, we are raising awareness, inspiring hope, and bringing lifesaving research one step closer.
