Sunday, September 6, the Action for LMNA community came together at Circuit Zandvoort for an unforgettable Ticking Clock Challenge. What started as an invitation to walk and run for LMNA turned into an inspiring day of determination, connection and hope — raising an incredible €15,027 for LMNA research.
The iconic Circuit Zandvoort is normally known for speed and Formula 1 racing. Yesterday, however, the track belonged to people walking and running for a different kind of race: the race towards better treatments and, ultimately, a cure for inherited heart diseases.
For Action for LMNA, the day was a great success.
More than €15,000 raised for LMNA
A total of 80 participants, united in 10 teams, took part on behalf of LMNA. Together with their families, friends, colleagues and supporters, they generated an amazing 447 donations.
The result:
€15,027 raised for LMNA research.
Every kilometre completed and every donation received represents something much bigger than a number. It represents greater awareness of LMNA-related cardiomyopathy and much-needed support for research into this rare inherited heart disease.
LMNA gene mutations can cause serious cardiac conditions, including arrhythmias, cardiomyopathy and heart failure. Research is essential to improve early diagnosis, better understand how the disease develops and accelerate the search for new and more effective treatments.
Every lap had a story
What made the Ticking Clock Challenge particularly special was the diversity of the people taking part. Some walked a lap of the circuit, others ran several laps, while others challenged themselves over much longer distances.
But everyone shared the same finish line: a better future for people and families affected by LMNA-related heart disease.
Patients, relatives, friends, researchers, healthcare professionals and supporters stood side by side. Some participated for themselves. Others ran or walked for a family member, a friend or someone they had lost.
Those personal stories gave every lap around Circuit Zandvoort an extra meaning.
From Nijmegen to Zandvoort
The Ticking Clock Challenge was another important milestone in this year’s Action for LMNA campaign.
Earlier this summer, the Action for LMNA team completed the Nijmegen Four Days Marches, raising both funds and awareness for LMNA-related cardiomyopathy. Yesterday, that same energy continued at Circuit Zandvoort.
Once again, the LMNA community demonstrated what can happen when patients, families, researchers, clinicians and supporters come together around one common goal.
