On September 9, the LMNA community came together for an important and timely discussion about one of the most promising areas of research in LMNA-related heart disease: gene therapy.
The webinar, “LMNA Gene Therapy: A New Approach to LMNA Cardiomyopathy,” attracted approximately 500 registrations, demonstrating the strong interest among patients, families, clinicians and others in the LMNA community in learning more about emerging treatments.

Exploring a new approach to LMNA cardiomyopathy
The webinar focused on NVC-001, an investigational gene therapy being developed by Nuevocor for LMNA-related dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM), and the SUNBEAM-LMNA clinical trial, the first clinical study evaluating this investigational therapy in people.
Unlike current treatments that primarily manage the consequences of LMNA cardiomyopathy, NVC-001 is being developed to target the underlying disease mechanism. The SUNBEAM-LMNA study is evaluating the safety and preliminary clinical effects of this investigational approach.
During the webinar, Monica Shah, MD, FACC, Chief Medical Officer at Nuevocor, and John Giudicessi, MD, PhD, cardiologist and physician-scientist at Mayo Clinic, explained the science behind the therapy and discussed what the clinical trial means for patients and families.
The session covered how NVC-001 is designed to work, the goals and design of the SUNBEAM-LMNA trial, potential eligibility for participation, and important medical and safety considerations surrounding gene therapy research.

With approximately 500 people registering for the webinar, the response highlights just how much interest there is in research aimed specifically at LMNA-related cardiac disease.
